In an age where legislators are finally starting to "get it" and demanding through laws that health care consumers be at least TOLD of errors and adverse outcomes, an ability to communicate with patients is vital. students of medicine need to learn how to take vitals and how to communicate restoratively with patients and family members. Who best for them to learn this from than the patients and families who have already had the experience - some good some bad. An open space needs to be made available for this "third option" in medical malpractice litigation. I also call it Restorative Conferences in Health Care.
