The mission of Bedside Advocates is to provide volunteer physician, nursing, other health professional and experienced lay advocates for patients and their families in a variety of venues and in transition between them. Their role is to alleviate anxiety, provide comfort, enhance the continuity of care, facilitate improved communication with the healthcare team and alert the clients' providers to urgent and emergent problems when patients and families request our assistance. They will help patients and their families understand and navigate the healthcare environment. In our capacity as advocates and facilitators, we do not practice medicine nor the other healthcare arts or specialties. We view ourselves like members of the extended family of our clients but with a depth of experience with the healthcare system that can potentially provide protection, access and peace of mind not otherwise attainable.
